ACADEMY ANNOUNCES NEW SCHEDULE

The Cabaret Dinner Theatre announced the summer schedule for its Academy class offerings. Imagination 101, the Cabaret's popular theatrical program which is broken into junior (5-8 years old) and senior (9-12) categories, offers children the opportunity to create their own characters for, rehearse and train for a public performance. Three sessions of Imagination 101 courses are currently scheduled, beginning May 27 and running through July 25, with performances slated for June 9-11, July 14-16 and August 4-6.

The Cabaret also announced the show selections for the Steps to Broadway Junior and Steps to Broadway programs. The Steps to Broadway programs offer tweens and teens the chance to rehearse and perform professionally mounted popular shows. This year, the Steps to Broadway Junior program (which is targeted at students ages 10-14 who have completed at least one session of Imagination 101) will mount SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE, the high-energy theatrical version of the celebrated Emmy Award-winning educational cartoons from the 1970s. According to Cabaret Academy Director Jo Sanburg, the Steps to Broadway Junior program will offer "plenty of opportunities for students to sing, dance, and explore and improve their acting skills. We are also pleased to provide this program in partnership with Mesa State College this summer. Classes and performances will be held on campus in their state-of-the-art facilities, and students will have opportunities to interact with the theater professors as well as Cabaret staff." Classes will run from June 30 to July 23, and SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE will hit the stage July 24-27.

And the Cabaret is proud to announce that the Steps to Broadway program (which caters to youths ages 15-18) will mount WEST SIDE STORY this year. The classic Jerome Robbins-Stephen Sondheim musical is based on Shakespeare's ROMEO AND JULIET and features beloved songs like "Tonight" and "Somewhere." Sanburg says, "WEST SIDE STORY could be the most challenging production to date for this Cabaret Academy of Performing Arts program." Once again, the Steps to Broadway program this year will be conducted in partnership with Mesa State College. Steps to Broadway students must have previously attended at least one session of Imagination 101 or Steps to Broadway Junior to take part.
